Koh Kong: Defense Minister, Tea Banh, has ordered officials to file a lawsuit against Koh Kong journalist, Yuon Chhiv, for disseminating false information related to the implementation of administrative measures to crackdown on land grabbing. On 19 September, Koh Kong Hot News broadcast a live interview on Facebook with three people claiming to be victims of the implementation of Koh Kong provincial administrative measures on their farmland, alleging that authorities disobeyed a sub-decree and portioned off their land for Botum Sakor National Park.

The director of Koh Kong Hot News, Yuon Chhiv, released a video on Monday apologizing to the Defense Minister for mistakenly disseminating the information, but he defended his broadcast as true and “unintentional” slander.

He said: “I have no serious intentions at all! If I post it biased or one-sided, I apologize. If it hurts any leader, then Samdach should consider forgiving me.”

EAC News could not reach the spokespersons of the Defense Ministry for comment.

On August 26, 2021, the Governor of Koh Kong Province, Mithona Phuthong, ordered the Botum Sakor District Authority to cooperate with the Provincial Department of Environment to crackdown on natural resource crimes in Botum Sakor National Park after seeing people illegally taking over the land, despite several crackdowns by the provincial environment department.
